Telling stories through video is sometimes the only way.
Writer and Semi-Producer for an artist series created for House Studios
House Studios, a very cool creative agency based in DC, was looking for content profiling artists and creators. I worked with them to create a video series on New York-based artists who were making waves in the industry (like Judith Bernstein at Kasmin Gallery) or those just starting out on their careers (like Luke Todd in the Bronx).
What Cunts Scream About
House sat down with Judith Bernstein to talk art and discovered an undercurrent of radical aesthetic communication and a keen ability to usurp and subvert the iconographic canon. Bernstein’s nimble contortion of strident signifiers and their objects and meanings separates her from previous artists. Her visual language comprises detached cocks and cunts, void of their bodies, acting as metonymies, not metaphors, for male and female. These shadows of human form converse outside the realm of reality, while commenting on pop-culture and current events. They speak in an acidic language, one that a shriveled penis can only speak with a blonde toupee playing Donald Trump.
Glowing Rocks and Astral Planes
San Francisco-reared Luke Todd is a multi-faceted artist. Ablaze with ardor for more than the art that exists today, he speaks with a hurried cadence as if he were scrambling to capture every thought. As if at any moment, this thought may be the one that determines his next sculpture. Optimism clings to his utterances.
